Raymond Patrick

Raymond is a designer / creative thinker who has a rich background in photography.  He traces the clean, elegant aspect of his practice to a childhood spent travelling the globe with his family, particularly the time he spent as a young boy in Hokkaido, Japan.

Influenced by his father who was always taking pictures, he took his first photography class at fourteen. By age fifteen, fueled by his enthusiasm for skateboarding, became a Pepsi Skateboard Team Photographer. Later, Raymond studied photography, product, and automotive design at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California and realized that photography was truly his passion.

After moving to New York, Raymond assisted Steven Klein. This pivotal experience opened his mind to what a photographer is and how a photographer works on the New York level.

For Raymond, photography is a visceral experience. “Creating images is not a fixed quantity. I’m mindful not to go into an assignment with too many pre-conceived notions of what to expect. It’s not unusual that the most authentic, interesting, and original images occur very spontaneously.”

Raymond is based in New York, but splits his time between Tokyo. Work has appeared in these publications and others: Vogue China and Taiwan, GQ Germany, Travel + Leisure and Conde Nast Traveller (UK) and he has shot the IBM Annual Report. Stock can be found at Getty Images.

Raymond recently shot assignments in Ireland, Turkey, New York, Kyoto, Tokyo, Osaka and Hokkaido, Japan. Over the span of his career he has shot in over thirty countries.

Raymond is represented in Tokyo by Image and is also signed with Getty Images Global Assignments Division.
